Frequently Asked Questions

My child seems to be spending a great deal of time doing homework, will tutoring help with homework?

Definitely, in fact a personalized program targeted at your child's individual skill gaps will improve your child's skills and confidence, which in turn will make homework easier. Although we don't recommend a program completely dedicated to homework support, we always try to incorporate the work coming home from school with our lessons. This will make homework more manageable in the interim.

Will tutoring complement the in school program?

Absolutely, the in-school curriculum must be covered according to the government standards, and students must advance as a group. All students do not learn in the same way or at the same speed, and as a result some children are left behind. At Learning Bound students are allowed to work at their own pace which is not always possible in the classroom setting. As well all of the individualized goals created at Learning Bound are reflective of the Ontario Curriculum Standards to bring your child up to the required level.

Can my child's classroom teacher be involved in the process?

At Learning Bound we feel it is important to work as a team. That team includes your child's classroom teacher, Learning Bound and other educational support people. Communication between Learning Bound and the school can be very beneficial for the success of your child's tutoring program.

Is my child too young for a tutoring program?

It is always better to start young and eliminate small learning challenges before they grow into larger tougher to solve problems. If skill gaps do exist then the older the child gets the wider the gap grows. We tutor children as young as three years old.

How quickly will I notice results?

Since every child is different they progress at different rates. Some see results immediately and others it takes a few lessons to start seeing a difference. The true results come when report cards come back with improved grades, and you notice more confidence in your child. In addition, we continually monitor your child's progress and report the status to you following each lesson. Since it is one-on-one we can adjust the program as needed to reflect your child's progress.

Why is Learning Bound's Program better than other tutoring programs?

We provide one-on-one instruction in an environment highly conducive to learning, the comfort and security of your own home, away from the usual classroom distractions. Parents save time and money because there is no hassle of driving to and from educational centers. Most importantly, instruction is truly individualized - one-on-one, not one teacher to 3, 4 or more children. There is no chance of your child being left behind as they may in a group setting.

How will I know what my child has accomplished?

Ongoing communication is critical, therefore immediately following each session, your tutor will meet with you to review their child's progress, and discuss the strategies being used in your child's lesson. That way when you are working with your child you can reinforce the skills being taught during the lesson.

How many times per week will my child be tutored?

That depends. Since our programs are personalized to meet the individual needs of the student, the number of lessons per week varies. Some children are tutored once per week and others we see almost every day. In general we see most students twice a week. We develop a plan that ensures student's reach their goals in a timely manner.

How are the tutoring lessons scheduled?

At Learning Bound Inc. we know that families are busy, and that is why we want to work with you to schedule lessons that meet your needs.
